James C. Earthman, Ph.D.

Dr. James Earthman has been a faculty member of the University of California, Irvine since July 1988. He received his B.S. degree (1980) in Materials Science from Rice University and his M.S. (1982) and Ph.D. (1986) degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University. Following his graduate work at Stanford, he spent two years as a Research Associate at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne. Professor Earthman’s research activities include studies of deformation, damage and fracture mechanisms in materials and structures. His work has also included the development of automated techniques for characterizing deformation, damage and fracture behavior. Professor Earthman’s research activities span a broad range of material, biomaterials and biofilms. He has authored or co-authored over 70 publications, of which 53 are in archival journals.

Dr. Earthman is the Director of Research for the Newport Coast Oral Facial Institute.
